Internship Programme - With a view to enhance professional skills and academic expertise, the students undergo a two-week internship programme in the industry. This gives the students hands on experience of the functioning of the textile sector and enables the development of collaborative alliances with reputed industrial houses.
Guest Lectures - Experts from various related fields are invited to deliver lectures to supplement the academic knowledge of the students. This also helps to broaden the perspective of students as regards the knowledge in the textile industry.
Workshops and Seminars - Participation in Seminar / Workshop outside the college is encouraged. At the same time the department also makes an effort to organize such Seminars to keep the students abreast with the latest trends and developments: Workshops related to Design, Photography, Effective Communication, educational technology have been organized.
Fashion show - An annual fashion show exposes the students to the entire gamut of activities involved in development of a garment from its concept to a finished product and its effective display.
Extension and Outreach programmes : The department undertakes such programmes on a regular basis to develop communication skills of the students. At the same time these programmes aim to provide income-generating opportunities for rural or economically weaker women. These outreach programmes intend to change the attitudes and practices of the people. They not only help in teaching the skills but also how to think and determine accurately their own needs, to find solutions of their own problems. This further helps women to develop themselves and achieve superior well being. Specific outreach activities of extension education can be summarized as:
Support NGO Streebal : Streebal is a voluntary agency for women where the faculty & PG students of the department teach the skills of cutting, tailoring and embroidery to the women of low socio economic background. The one year vocational training course (VTC) has been specially developed by the department where training and evaluation are conducted every year by the department. Along with the VTC programme the deptt. Also provides the requisite input in running Production centre at Streebal. It Includes-
- Supervision of finishing, quality control and standardization of sizes of garments.
- Guidance in designing of garments.
- Training women in specific skills of garment production
- Supervising VTC centre.
- Motivating students to become self-employed.
- Helping women to find new avenues for marketing their products and organizing sale.
Similar work was also done at Mubarkpur in previous years and presently Baliawas village in Haryana has been identified and women are being taught the embroidery skills and appliqué work.
Training is also done at Sivanand Institute - An Institute of Vocational training where our PG students take up various workshops for enhancing the knowledge in the field of Textiles (Colour Finishing, Laundary and many other as per their interest) among the students.
Training People with Special Needs : The Handicapped children are being trained in various skills like Block printing, painting, basic embroidery and developing simple handicraft items at the enabling center, Lady Irwin College. Teaching and learning packages for the handicapped have been developed to aid in their rehabilitation and making them self reliant. Currently a DST Project for 3 years on 'Involvement of Women of Low Socio Economic background for Design and development of protective aids and accessories for individuals with special needs' is being done. The aim of the project is to empower women with entrepreneurial skills and to make them self-reliant. Collaborations with Spastic Society of Northern India, Spinal Injury Centre, Astha, Amar Jyoti etc have made such studies more significant.
Ready Reckoners for training Consumers : Information about judicious selection and buying practices of textiles has been compiled in the form of Ready Reckoners. These booklets are a product of research carried out the department with regards to the level of consumer awareness about textiles. The lack of awareness about textiles is being taken care of by providing them the information related to textiles. The consumers are being trained to make appropriate selection of textile products. This work is being done in collaboration of various NGO's, Textile Committee, Textiles Association of India and NITRA.
In another outreach programme the workers at Urmul , Rajasthan have been trained to use correct techniques of dyeing (especially Vat Dyers) and providing them with design possibilities of woven cloth.
Field work and Training work carried out by the department also includes consultancy provided by the faculty to various Institutions and organizations like:

- National Institute of Open Schooling
- Central Board of Secondary Education
- SCERT, DIET etc.
Field Trips: Field Trips form an integral part of teaching. Regular trips are undertaken to various places as they are considered extended classrooms for students.
To industry - to acquaint the students with the latest and to increase their awareness.Trips to Reliance Industry, Arvind Mills, Ashima group, IPCL, Knitting, Weaving and Processing units, DCM Textiles, Himmat Singh Ka etc., Processing houses, Madura coats, Fabrication units, Buying and Export houses.
